REPUBLIC OF SERBIA

In 2006 the Agency for Human and Minority Rights together with UNDP worked on developing a draft Law on Anti-discrimination as part of its agreements with the European Union.  In this regard, CSSP worked with key leaders on the issue of developing interethnic mediation at the local level in specific target areas.  In September 2006 it held an initial systems design workshop with key leaders from various government institutions to determine specific needs and interests.  A report was published in the spring of 2007.
Since the draft Law on Anti-discrimination was not adopted, CSSP continues to advocate in Serbia for the law and mediation within it.

In September 2007, CSSP began cooperation with the Serbian Coordination Body for Preševo, Bujanovac and Medvedja in South Serbia. The team made several assessment visits to the area and made recommendations to the Coordination Body, municipalities and the government for an improvement of interethnic relations in the region. Together with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation we will conduct an Interactive Problem-Solving Workshop with key leaders of the three municipalities and the Coordination Body in 2008. In addition we will work with other stakeholders in an effort to improve interethnic dialogue.
