SEEMF

The South Eastern European Mediation Forum (SEEMF) is a regional network of mediators that supports mediation development in the different regions in South Eastern Europe, thereby improving good practice, cooperation, exchange of experiences and human relationships. SEEMF promotes and performs mediation through direct activities and networking with local and external networks and organizations, and seeks to include all forms of mediation and mediators.

SEEMF brings together mediators and experts from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia. Each country has a coordinator who disseminates information on the network’s activities and promotes the use of mediation as a conflict resolution tool.

The goals of SEEMF are:
- Raising public awareness of SEEMF as well as mediation in general
- Supporting and promoting mediation programs, trainings and education
- Performing activities in order to ensure growth and sustainability of SEEMF
- Drafting and adopting Standards of Practice and Codes of Ethics
- Establishing good communication with all relevant and interested parties
- Assisting with the exchange of knowledge and experiences among
  mediation professionals
- Permanent maintainance and improvement of the SEEMF website
- Creation of data-base
(list of mediation organizations and mediators in the region)

Every year, SEEMF organizes a regional event that highlights mediation activities in South Eastern Europe. The First SEEMF Regional Conference took place in Skopje in October 2006 in cooperation with the Association of Mediators of the Republic of Macedonia and the Macedonia Young Lawyers Association. The Second SEEMF Regional Conference focused on Interethnic Mediation and was organized with support of the Nansen Dialogue Center Montenegro. It took place in Podgorica in November 2007. Both events were sponsored by CSSP.

A meeting of all country coordinators, including CSSP and ADR Group, is held on an annual basis to plan the next year’s activities. SEEMF is constantly working on strengthening its network and diversify its activities.
