BOSNIA AND HERZOGOVINA

The CSSP-Team is linked to Bosnia-Herzegovina due to the long-year mandate of Dr. Schwarz-Schilling as International Mediator of the country. In 2006 and 2007 there was no active involvement of CSSP in the country as Dr. Schwarz-Schilling was appointed as High Representative and EU Special Representative of Bosnia-Herzegovina. After Dr. Schwarz-Schilling stepped down in June 2007, CSSP reinvigorated its work in the country and began planning new activities. In 2007 – 2008, CSSP is conducting a joint research project with Prof. Dr. Eileen Babbitt of Tufts University evaluating the level of interethnic co-existence in six different municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This research focuses on the municipalities of Bratunac, Prijedor, Sanski Most, Mostar, Fojnica, and Kiseljak. Different sources, such as interviews with local leaders, representatives from civil society, and citizens, as well media sources and reports are utilized to develop a comprehensive picture of the current state of interethnic relations. Each municipality has a specific interethnic dynamic so that a broad range of conclusions can be drawn. The results of the research will be published in early 2009.
