Internship Opportunity Mediation Project Management

The CSSProject for Integrative Mediation, a German NGO working on inter-community conflict resolution projects through Integrative Mediation in the Western Balkans, offers talented and motivated students the opportunity for an internship in our offices in Berlin.

Who we are

CSSP's purpose is to empower local leaders to resolve the issues of concern in their multi-ethnic municipality that are straining inter-community relations. We do this by developing tailor-made mediation processes that apply the CSSP methodology called Integrative Mediation. We are a dynamic team with members of different nationalities and backgrounds, working together in a professional, yet relaxed environment. Our main office is in Berlin, and we also have field offices in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Macedonia.

Who we are looking for

CSSP is regularly looking for highly motivated interns to support our team. The next period for internships is September - December with a minimum of three months. Application deadline is 31 July 2012.

What are the tasks?

Interested persons can apply for one of the following positions:

1. Peace Networking

The intern supports the development of the CSSP network, e.g.

- Supporting fundraising, including research on potential donors, setting up of appointments

- Supporting Public Relations e.g. draft of newsletters

- Outreach to other organisations

2. Project Management

The intern works with the project managers of one of the following countries: Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia or Kosovo. If you are particulary interested in one those countries please mention in your application. The main tasks in this field are:

- Supporting the preparation of interactive trainings, mediative consultations, advocacy projects, and assessment visits to the region

- Supporting reporting and evaluation of projects

3. Integrative Mediation Training:

The intern cooperates with the head of training. The main tasks are:

- Supporting the development of training materials e. g. handbooks

- Maintaining training materials

4. North Africa Project Coordinator

The tasks of the intern include:

- Supporting the preparation of interactive trainings, mediative consultations, advocacy projects, and assessment visits to the region (Arabic skills necessary)

- Supporting reporting and evaluation of projects

- Fundraising

What qualifications and skills are needed?

University degree (minimum BA) in international relations or conflict resolution Interest in the Western Balkan region; background information on the Caucasus region or South East Asia a plus. Fluency in English and German, both written and spoken. Other languages are a plus (helpful but not necessary), in particular Albanian, Bosnian, Croatian, Macedonian, Serbian or Arabic. Knowledge of how to conduct internet research, and capable of using the Microsoft Office Package (Word, Excel, Power Point). Other computer skills a plus. University student, preferably beyond Zwischenprüfung / Bachelor DegreeBeing flexible, motivated, professional, and dynamic.

What CSSP offers

Learning experience in a team of professional mediators and project managers. A basic stipend per month. Involvement in different phases of project management: project design, proposal, preparation, implementation (incl. trip to the field if appropriate) and evaluation. Excellent recommendation upon successful completion of the internship.
