The CSSProject for Integrative Mediation, a German NGO working on inter-community conflict resolution through Integrative Mediation in the Western Balkans, the MENA region, Sub-Saharan and South East Asia, offers talented and motivated people the opportunity to assist the Lead Mediator for our Egypt activities at our office in Berlin. Who we are
CSSP's purpose is to empower local leaders to resolve the issues of concern in their multi-ethnic municipality that are straining inter-community relations. We do this by developing tailor-made mediation processes that apply the CSSP methodology called Integrative Mediation. We are a dynamic team with members of different nationalities and backgrounds, working together in a professional, yet relaxed environment. Our main office is in Berlin, and we also have field offices in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Macedonia as well as local partners in Egypt and Nepal.
Who we are looking for
CSSP is looking for 1 highly motivated native Egyptian speaker to support our team as of February 2012 with a minimum period of three months rather long term. The assignment might be ideal for (PhD) students specialised in Egyptian society and politics.
What are the tasks?
• Support the Lead Mediator for our Egypt activities in her Project Management, including conflict analysis and relationship mappings, communication maintenance with stakeholders, setting up of appointments, translations
• Support in the conceptualization and preparation of mediation trips
• Organizational support for the office and administration
• Creating press reviews
• Research updates on conflict regions
• Supporting Public Relations e.g. draft of newsletters, web contributions
• Outreach to other organizations
• Supporting reporting and evaluation of projects
What qualifications and skills are needed?
• General interest in conflict resolution, basic understanding of mediation
• Must have Egyptian as native language and fluency in spoken German. Other languages are a plus (helpful but not necessary), in particular English
• In-depth knowledge of Egyptian social, political and economic structures, having lived in Egypt is definitely of an advantage
• High interest in political developments
• Bachelor Degree, preferably studied in Egypt
• Knowledge of how to conduct internet research, and capable of using the Microsoft Office Package (Word, Excel, Power Point). Other computer skills a plus.
• Being flexible, working independently, motivated, professional, pro-active and creative
• Very good social skills, especially in conflict sensitive situations
What CSSP offers
Learning experience in a team of professional mediators and project managers. A compensation per month. Involvement in different phases of project management: project design, proposal, preparation, implementation (incl. trip to the field if appropriate) and evaluation. Excellent recommendation upon successful completion of the internship.
